This was the first workshop organized by Embryonics International and O&G Partners Fertility Centre on the basic aspects of Assisted Reproductive Techniques. The aims of the workshop were to: The workshop was aimed at embryologists as well as clinicians. It was also open to nurses to provide them with a simple understanding of what scientific ART is about so that they can better assist their patients who are interested in such treatments. Most of our overseas participants came from other parts of Asia, including Brunei, China, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. Day 1 of the workshop consisted solely of lectures given by various speakers from various institutes from within Singapore as well as from overseas (Prof. G. Vajta from Denmark). It covers topics on clinical as well as laboratory aspects. Issues of infertility and treatments were addressed, including a session on case discussions. Different laboratory techniques were highlighted, culminating in a lecture on tips on how to start a new laboratory. A scrumptious dinner treat at the Tanglin Club awaited the participants and lecturers after a long, diligent day. Day 2 consisted solely of hands-on sessions, conducted by our own embryologists as well as Prof. Vajta. Techniques covered include sperm preparation, ICSI, cryopreservation, vitrification, and assisted hatching. Participants were divided into small groups with one instructor for each group. Prof. Vajta, a world-renown scientist from Denmark, imparted his knowledge on embryo and oocyte vitrification to the participants. We want to extend our thanks to Serono, our main sponsor for this workshop, without whom this workshop would not have been a success. Labquip and Parkway Holdings have also been very supportive, along with other sponsors such as Olympus, Cook (SEA), Ming-Mei Technology (Taiwan), and BioLaboratories. We look forward to holding more workshops in the future. Copyright © 2005 EMBRYONICS International Pte Ltd. All rights reserved. Last update: November, 2005 |
